Lorraine is a therapist who specialises in fears and phobias. While it is not part of accepted therapeutic practice, she prides herself in having developed her own additional approach that involves dressing in clothing, based on the client’s issues, in a way that complements her counselling. She believes she is dressing so subtly as to be operating on a purely subliminal level. Well, that’s what she thinks. Here she is dressed as if she is naturally occurring in the coral seabed, for her patient Garrick, who has a fear of swimming. She’s a little perplexed how she is going to dress for a client next week who has a deep-seated fear of tarantulas.

Lorraine is also an articulated ceramic wall puppet and she is modelled by hand in stoneware clay, twice fired, decorated with ceramic glazes, and finished with a cold glaze. She is pictured here with Garrick, her client, who long ago overcame his fear of swimming but keeps coming back because he is subconsciously addicted to Lorraine's dress aesthetic. She is approximately 32 cm long, and can hang on the wall by nail, hook or tack.
