Gregory
Gregory King is attempting to run for the position of mayor of Te Awamutu in the local body elections, and in the absence of any serious social media skill or knowledge, he’s drawing heavily on his name to create a marketing sensation. His older brother Andrew successfully did the same years earlier in the big city metropolis of Hamilton, using his car sales business to promote his regal status in his advertising. Every car sold left with a large magnetic image of Andrew King attached to the doors, with him as the mayor, in a suit of armour. So far Gregory’s efforts have been less than effective, and the images on his fleet of water tankers and sludge removal trucks have failed to move the voter polls. To be honest, it's having a negative impact, with most people being taken aback by a man turning up to empty their septic tanks dressed in regal robes, a crown and waving a sceptre of dubious utility.
Gregory is also an articulated ceramic wall puppet and he is modelled by hand in stoneware clay, twice fired, decorated with ceramic glazes, and finished with a cold glaze. He is approximately 32 cm long, and can hang on the wall by nail, hook or tack.
