Robert
Robert used to enjoy the hours of regular speedway motorcycle riding he did in his younger days, but he now gets much more happiness from wearing his figure hugging leather cycling ensemble whether he gets on his bike or not. It started one Saturday morning when Robert had no intention of going to the track to practise, and it rapidly escalated to being a daily event, where he would don one of his many coordinated cycling outfits to go about his daily business. His workmates eventually organised an intervention after he repeatedly turned up to board meetings in cycle clothing, with accessories, and his colleagues were running out of excuses for him on their Zoom meetings with head office. Robert now attends a counselling group every Tuesday, and it’s the one place he can wear his full leather outfit with helmet, gloves and goggles without feeling judged. Here, he is pictured with Dora, who he met in the counselling group. He doesn't know why she's in the group but he knows from experience her hairdo can withstand several laps at top speed at the Kihikihi speedway track when she fills in as his sidecar passenger.
Robert is also an articulated ceramic wall puppet and he is modelled by hand in stoneware clay, twice fired, decorated with ceramic glazes, and finished with a cold glaze. He is approximately 32 cm long, and can hang on the wall by nail, hook or tack.
