Winston
Winston is, technically speaking, a 3-star Michelin chef. His nominally French inspired burger bar and tea room in Kihikihi (population 3390), New Zealand, called the Bouche à Oreille, quite coincidentally has the same name as a restaurant just outside Paris. The latter was awarded the 3-star rating, but a mix up in the Michelin awards process saw the stars given to Winston by mistake. Success hasn’t changed Winston’s life much, mainly because the Michelin guide doesn’t extend as far as New Zealand so it hasn’t resulted in much extra business. Winston however uses it as an excuse to smoke cigarettes while preparing food, something strictly against health regulations, because he once saw a film about Michelin chefs in France, and every one of them smoked continuously… whether in bed, when pumping their gas, or working in their kitchens.
Winston is also an articulated ceramic wall puppet and he is modelled by hand in stoneware clay, twice fired, decorated with ceramic glazes, and finished with a cold glaze. He is approximately 32 cm long, and can hang on the wall by nail, hook or tack.
